RECYCLE
When we recycle, used materials are converted into new products, reducing the need to consume natural resources. If used materials are not recycled, new products are made by extracting fresh, raw material from the Earth, through mining and forestry. Recycling helps conserve important raw materials and protects natural habitats for the future. Why RecycleToday, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimates that 75 percent of our waste is recyclable, which goes well beyond what you toss in your recycling bin at home, at the office or at school.
A LOOK INTO THE PAST:
The EPA reports that 20 years ago, only one curbside recycling program existed in the entire country. |
